The Forelli Family was a powerful mafia gang in 1986, mostly based in Liberty City in the Grand Theft Auto series. Besides appearing in Liberty City, the gang also appeared in Vice City while their former leader, Sonny Forelli, was paying Tommy Vercetti a visit at his home. The gang has appeared in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. They serve as the main group of antagonists to the player in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Background History

Grand Theft Auto III

After Sonny's death in 1986, the gang has become severely weakened, and control little territory, if not at all, in Liberty City. They are also a major annoyance to Claude, as the gang tried to stop him from crushing a car with a dead member in the trunk.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

The gang, at least Sonny himself, appear in the events of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Tommy Vercetti, who was a member of the gang, has been released from a Liberty City prison after the murders he committed in 1971. Sonny allows Tommy to take over a drug deal in Viceport with another local family, but the deal is ambushed by another rival gang. Because of this, Tommy had lost all the money and drugs. Sonny responds by telling Tommy to kill those that were involved in the ambush.

Over time, Tommy eventually gets Sonny's money back, but doesn't send Sonny "his cut." Sonny becomes furious and retaliates by sending some of his men to collect the money from Tommy's businesses. They first hit the Print Works factory, thus severely injuring Earnest Kelly while also infuriating Tommy afterwards, due to Tommy's strong relationship with the latter character. In response to this, Tommy finds them and kills every one of them. After hearing that his men were "capped", Sonny flies to Vice City himself and meets Tommy in person. Tommy tries to give Sonny twenty-million of counterfeit cash to him, but Lance Vance steps in and tells Sonny that the money is fake, betraying Tommy and Ken Rosenberg in the process, thus leading to a large shootout at the mansion. After Tommy kills Lance on the roof, he then meets Sonny from the top of the stairs, engaging in a last-minute gun battle until Sonny succumbs to his injuries. After Sonny's death, remaining members of the Forelli Family will leave Vice City and aren't seen again.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories

The Forelli Family is mentioned little in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. They are mentioned by Phil Collin's manager, who mentioned that he needed to pay off 3 million pounds to a Forelli member.

Mission Appearances

Trivia

  • During the final mission, once the player leaves the mansion after killing Lance Vance, members of the Forelli Family can be seen spawning in groups on the grounds of Tommy's mansion, as well as areas normally occupied by the Streetwannabes. If the player points their gun or fires it at a Forelli member on the street, they won't attack back. Instead, they will turn around and run away.
  • If the player kills more members of the Forelli Family than any other gang, they will be listed under the "least favorite gang" section as the Streetwannabes. This also includes members of the Counterfeiting Syndicate and the soldiers at Fort Baxter Air Base.
