The Mr. Whoopee is an ice-cream van that made appearances in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. The Mr. Whoopee van is a parody of the Mister Softee. The look of the vehicle differs in every game it appears in, from the body style to the position of the headlights.
The design of Mr. Whoopee is based on either a box truck or a van. The Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories renditions is a van, with headlights and the front grille resembling that of a 1986 Ford Transit, while ther GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, and GTA Vice City Stories reditions is a step van, similar to the Boxville but smaller in size.
In most of its appearances, the decorations on top of the trucks resemble sexual referances. In GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, the two mounds of ice-cream on top are to resemble a pair of women's breasts, while the roof top decoration in GTA San Andreas, which emcompasses an ice cream swirl with an ice cream bar sticking out, is to resemble a male's genitalia. The GTA III and GTA Liberty City Stories renditions are exceptions, consisting of a single ice cream swirl with a chocolate bar sticking out.
One of the vehicle's special attributes is a musical jingle that can be activated by pressing the horn button. The melody in GTA III and GTA Vice City is the same used by the Ice-Cream Van in Grand Theft Auto 2. The melody in GTA San Andreas is different. The renditions in melody GTA Liberty City Stories and GTA Vice City Stories are the same.
Due to its size, the Mr. Whoopee is slow and suffers in steering and braking. The Boxville renditions are heavy and prone to rolling over if not driven carefully. The van in GTA Liberty City Stories can easily blow up after a few collisions, making it the weakest vehicle in the game.
