A spike strip is an item that the Vice City Police Department will use against the player at a three-star wanted level or more. VCPD officers will only use it if the player is driving a vehicle, deploying it in front of the player wherever they are driving at, and popping their tires. They can be avoided by going around the strip or simply killing the officer before he deploys it.

- The strip is affective against every vehicle in the game except the Rhino. The Rhino's tires are pop-proof so the player can simply run over the strip without receiving any tire damage.
- The VCPD officers will still deploy spike strips if the player is flying a helicopter or a plane.
